Film Director: MIGUEL COIMBRA
ColectivArquitectura takes pre-existing reality as the starting point for its works. They highlight the identity of each place. The spirit of the place and harmony with the surrounding landscape preside over the placement and organization of space, outline of forms and volumes and choice of materials. This film, directed by Miguel Coimbra, provides an overview of three projects: two houses, one by the beach and other in the countryside, spaces for intimacy and contemplation, and a workplace, an office, a laboratory of experiences and collective sharing.
The office ColectivArquitectura was founded in 1995 by a couple of architects, Vera Martins Alves and Cristóvão Fonseca Ferreira, both graduates from the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon (1990-1995 and 1991-1996).
The work carried out since then has required/reflected more than the search for a coherent language / brand image; it shows “(…) the identity of each place. The spirit of the place and harmony with the surrounding landscape preside over the placement and organization of space, outline of forms and volumes and choice of materials. “
The common link between the various projects is the logic of thought behind (the development) of each new work – how to interpret the site/place and/or their future occupants/users.
With an assumed preference for the use of ‘natural’ materials and the use of forms, simple geometries and pure element across various projects, there is search for interior/exterior relationship, visual frameworks, visual permeability yet still privileging the refuge and privacy – “… to see without being seen. “*
Mutations of spaces influenced by the incidence of light – natural and artificial, durability and timelessness of materials and environments are elements and concepts.
“The project works light and shade, inside and outside, individual and collective, matching the rigid pre-existing structure with the plasticity of their occupation.”
